2 Minute Review: My Biggest Lashes by Prestige

Hey all, if you know me ( J ) at all, you know I have something of an obsession with my eyes.  I love eye shadow, I love eyeliner, and I LOVE lashes.  I have and wear false lashes more days than not, but there are days when for one reason or another, (I overslept) I don't take the time (have the time) to put my lashes on.  It is on these days that I'm especially thankful for good mascara.

I actually wear mascara every single day...with or without my falsies...and while I have my favorites, I was eager to give Prestige's "My Biggest Lashes" a try when they sent it for our consideration.  Anything that claims to give me...well...my biggest lashes...is going to catch my attention.

You know, the first thing I look at when it comes to mascara is the brush.  I'm sorry if it means I'm not a forward thinker, and maybe I'll never be an eye model because of it...but I absolutely HATE the new trend in rubbery, prickley, and pretty much (for me, anyway) totally ineffective mascara brushes:

Original image source

I know that lots of people love these brushes...and clearly get good results from them...but I just can't figure them out.  Every time I've tried a brand with one of these wands, I have hated it.  I feel like they never hold enough product, or maybe it's just that they don't distribute enough product...but without fail, I have hated the results I've gotten from brushes like this.

THANKFULLY, the folks at Prestige seem to be mascara wand designers after my own heart, and I was thrilled to find a big fat bristle style brush when I opened the tube...YAY!

A brush alone cannot a fabulous mascara make, however, so I was eager to put the actual product to the test!

In a move that defies every ounce of vanity that I possess...(and trust me, there's a lot!)...I took a picture of my bare naked lashes...which are so sad and non-fabulous, that I almost couldn't publish it.  You know how much I love you, though, that I'm willing to share this:

Scary right?  Now you know why I love mascara and false lashes so much.  :)

Using a couple of coats of Prestige's My Biggest Lashes mascara, I was thankfully able to transform my embarrassing non-existent lashes into something FAR more respectable:

Finally, because I'm not the type to go out with just mascara on (remember that excessive vanity I have? It truly controls a girl!)...I thought I'd show you how well this mascara compliments a completed look...without any false lashes:

It's probably needless to say, but I'm thrilled with the results I get from Prestige's My Biggest Lashes mascara.  While I definitely don't plan to give up my false lashes anytime soon...(I'm addicted, okay?)...I love that Prestige has created a fabulous and effective product to compliment my lashes on days when I'm wearing falsies...and to magnify my lashes when I'm not!

If you'd like to try this mascara, never fear...Prestige is always super affordable, which is another thing I love about them!  You can pick this fabulous wonder up at Ulta or at www.prestigecosmetics.com for just $6.50.  Bargain!

Are you a mascara junkie?  What's your favorite brand?

2 Minute Review: Khroma Lashes by the Kardashians!

Okay, we’re going to come right out and say it…we’re not fans of the Kardashians.  This is not to say that we have anything against them…but we don’t watch their show.  We don’t follow their lives.  We don’t remember how long Kim was married to what’s his face, and we’re not sure how we feel about those perfume ads by Khloe and her husband.  (Just kidding, we know we hate those ads as surely as we know anything in life.)

That being said, it cannot be denied that those Kardashians sport pretty phenomenal eye makeup…and nobody is known for fabulous lashes like Kim!

These are the things we notice.  Marriages?  Relationships?  Kids?  Bruce Jenner’s face??  Who cares, people…it’s ALL about those Kardashian lashes.

With this in mind, it was only a matter of time before the Kardashian girls decided to market a line of false lashes.  Trying to sell a fragrance or some nail polish using their name could have been hit or miss…but getting people to believe that a product just might help them achieve the lash based greatness that Kim enjoys…well, that’s money in the bank, people!

When K spotted these Kardashian lashes, sold under their Beauty Line “Khroma,” it took her 3.2 seconds to get J (who had been looking at Katy Perry lashes at the time) to snatch up a pair and throw them in the basket.  The thought that she could even come close to Kim’s lash perfection overtook her…and she was OVER THE TOP excited to try them out!

J decided to try the “Gaze Lashes,” as they seemed to be the most full set, and definitely appealed to the dramatic eye look loving soul that she is.  She could not WAIT to turn herself into a Kardashian-esque bombshell with these babies.

So…as it turned out…um…well…the lashes were pretty much the biggest let down J has experienced since Little Kenya’s Beyonce impression on RuPaul’s Drag Race.

It just could have been so much better.  Sigh…

J’s biggest issue with the lashes was not how they looked once they were on…(although, truth be told, Kardashian-esque she was NOT)…but with how they applied.  Without the patience to apply individual lashes to create her favorite looks, J relies on strip lashes (like these) on a daily basis, and how well they conform to the shape of your eye is a deal maker or breaker.

These guys…didn’t do a great job.  The strip is pretty stiff in general, and while J appreciates that they’ll be sturdy enough to be used multiple times…it was ridiculously hard to get them to curve around her lash line…they just wanted to pull up on the corners…making it super hard to get the glue to fully dry with them in the right place.  Then…halfway through the day…(every time she’s worn them)…the corners lift…returning to their apparent desired position of stiff as a board.  :(

As for the way the lashes looked on…they were just okay.  J might have overestimated the amount of drama these lashes could produce, and was underwhelmed by their shape and curl (or lack thereof) once they were applied.  It's not that they look horrible on...but they don't look AMAZING, either.  They're just...fine.

There were other options to choose from in the Khroma line…and perhaps one of these might produce a look with which J might be more happy…but the lameness of the strip itself leads us to believe that J won’t risk buying another pair…regardless of shape…any time soon.

Khroma lashes are definitely not on J’s Christmas list, and she wouldn’t recommend them very highly for any of you, either.  Not only are they about twice as expensive as other lashes that J loves…(Ardell, Prestige, Model 21)…but they just don’t get the job done nearly as well as she hoped they would.

Are you a lash lover like J?  Do you have a brand you’d love to recommend for her lash addiction?

2 Minute Review: Prestige Skin Loving Minerals Eyeshadow Dust

So, as you have probably gathered from previous posts, we are c-c-c-CRAZY about bold eye looks.  We love dressing our eyes up and making them the star of the show as often as we possibly can.

As you know, when you're looking for a bold look, there is nothing worse than a shadow that looks amazing and gorgeous in the package...but that has minimal color payout when you apply it.  Eyeshadow without good pigment is like Christmas with no music...or football with no touchdowns...it just isn't right...right?

Anyone who loves good eye makeup knows, too, that when you're looking for the best color payout...loose pigments are as good as it gets.  When you're using loose pigments, you get awesome color payout...and superior blendability...they are awesome!

With this in mind, we're happy to present our latest Prestige product review: Skin Loving Minerals Eyeshadow Dust.  Prestige sent us this awesome Shimmering Trio to try out...

...and we immediately jumped for joy at the chance to give them a go.

The three shimmery colors compliment each other perfectly, and come in an easy to use tub with individual lids that snap closed.  This is especially handy for J, who tends to knock things over from time to time...not spilling pigment all over the place is definitely a plus!

The pigments inside are easy to use, produce a great color payout...and are super long wearing...WIN!

Once again, Prestige has produced an awesome product at an awesome price.  You can pick up this trio, called Prism, or your choice of five other color combinations, for $11.95 at www.prestigecosmetics.com.

What are your thoughts on loose color pigments...do you love them the way we do?

2 Minute Review: DDF Brightening Cleanser

Hi Guys, it's me, Janine.

A while ago, (August, I think?) I received a sample of DDF Brightening Cleanser in my Birchbox.  Said sample sat around my bathroom for quite some time, because I was kind of being an Aveeno snob, and I really didn't care to try anything new.  Weird, I know.  Usually I'm ALL about trying new things...but for some reason, I couldn't be bothered, for quite some time, to get this stuff out.

As it turns out, I had to run out of all of my other cleansers before I'd whip the DDF out to give it a whirl.  My oh my...what took me so long?  I LOVE this cleanser!

As I have mentioned in past posts, I kind of have an uneven skin tone naturally.  I do not like it.  While I believe that we should all love ourselves in spite of, and because of, our differences, I have always hated that my skin doesn't look like Colleen's skin.  :)  (Come on...you've all stood in awe of her skin at least once...admit it!)

Enter DDF's Brightening Cleanser...which I do not know how I will ever live without from this point forward.

Including both glycolic and salicylic gel, I love the little tingle I get while using this product, and as an added bonus, it smells like black licorice.  Woohoo!  Within just a couple of days of using the cleanser, I absolutely noticed that my skin felt less oily, and though I've never had TONS of breakouts, I felt like my pores have been much clearer, as well.

This foaming wonder has a blend of brighteners that somehow make my uneven skin...well, more even.  My ruddy cheeks?  Not so ruddy.  My kind of annoying sun spots?  Not so noticeable.  My foundation addiction?  Not so necessary.  It's a miracle!

I hate it when I procrastinate and put off something that turns out to be fabulous.  I could have been using this product for two freaking months...but NO...I was too stubborn. Thankfully I came around, however, and I am never looking back.  If you're looking for a new cleanser in your life...I highly recommend this life (vanity) saver by DDF.

What is your favorite facial cleanser?

October Favorites!!

It is so hard to believe that we are a week into November, girls.  Where in the world does the time go?  October was an unbelievably busy month for us, but somehow we managed to award gold stars throughout the month to our most outstanding products.

This month, our A+ reviews go to:

K's October Favorites

1.   Shea Terra Organics - whipped shea butter in bananas & baobabs - What an absolute treat...in every possible way!!  First of all it's whipped shea butter and secondly...it's smells like banana pudding!!  It's amazing!!  My hands and feet are sooo soft!

2.   Suave Professionals - captivating curls spray gel - my curls hold soo much better when I use a quick all over spray of this stuff AND it's an alcohol free anti frizz forumla.  (Dry weather in Wyoming likes to cause frizz)  Frizz free for me!!  :)

3.   Urban Decay - all nighter makeup setting spray -   Bottom line, if you haven't tried this stuff yet, go get some now!!  It's amazing!  Has always been and will always be my favorite makeup setting spray.

4.   Urban Decay - primer potion in Eden - I ran out of this fabulous fabulous primer, but my Birthday came around and BAM...restocked!!  :)  The opaque concealer colored primer creates the perfect palette for my eyeshadow creations every day.   p.s. I love the old style bottle with the applicator - easy easy application!

5.   Coastal Scents - bright eyed - this was a recommendation from Your BFF, check out her review here , I fell in love with how it literally brightened her eyes and HAD to have it.  This is still my first tube - a little goes a long way!  Great investment!  Thanks girl!!

6.  Couture Color - pequi oil treatment -  I love oils for hair, I'm actually obsessed with them.  Argan oils, Moroccan, Macadamia, you name it...I want it or I've tried it!  :)  This little oil promises to "restore softness and shine"  and it literally does JUST that!  Plus I love the smell - smell is a huge factor in hair products for this girl.

7.   eos lip balm - watermelon wonderland -  I can't say enough good things about the cute purse friendly eos balms...seriously!  This lovely flavor is found in the Alice in Wonderland set.  Soft and moisturized lips...enough said!

8.   essie nail polish - smokin' hot and _____ don't laugh, I've lost my favorite polish!!!  I'll update everyone once I locate this beloved color!  :(  On another note...essie, essie, what would I do without you?  I love grays/browns/purples for Fall and these 2 colors have been my "go to" colors for this month...they fulfill all my "color" needs for the perfect Fall mani.

9.  Julep nail polish - helena - Ok, I did slip this color into my "go to" colors quite a bit...okay a lot!  This color is the perfect blend of pink and purple- creating a beautiful bright magenta...LOVE it!

J's October Favorites

1.  Down Boy Blush, by theBalm - Pretty much both K and I are blushaholics, but I found myself reaching for this one a little more often than not this month.  It's the perfect soft pink...never too dark or too orangey, so it goes with EVERYTHING!

2.  DDF Brightening Cleanser - I love this little cleanser that I got in a Birchbox a while ago SO MUCH...that I've decide to write a post just for it.  Seriously...stay tuned...this one's a life changer.

3.  tenoverten polish in "Elizabeth" - Holy Cow!  Used this brand for the first time this month, and am over the top excited about it.  I need to pick up about 20 other shades...this stuff paints like a dream!!

4.  Deborah Lippmann polish in "Tiny Dancer" - I know a ton of people got this one in their Sample Society box a couple of months ago, but I'm just as entranced with it as I ever was.  DL polishes are the best...and I love this color!!

5.  Model 21 Eyelashes - While I'm usually a creature of habit in certain areas, and traditionally wear the same lashes every day, I have actually had a lot of fun changing my looks up with this variety pack.  Who knew breaking out of my shell could be so fun?  ; )

6.  What's Your Type Mascara, by theBalm - Once again, theBalm makes an appearance on my list.  I actually got my Ipsy bag, mid-October, right when I was in need of a new tube of mascara, and this one didn't disappoint.  Definitely need to pick up the full sized tube when this runs out!

7.  Urban Decay's Book of Shadows III Redux - So basically, I love eyeshadow.  I love and trust it more than I've loved and trusted most boyfriends I've had.  ;)  My relationship with good eyeshadow is one that will stand the test of time, however...and when it comes to good shadow, I never ever EVER get tired of using UD's palettes.  I just heart them so so much.  I got this palette as a gift from a friend this month and I just can't stop using it.  It's a gorgeous velvet dream land of pigmentation and loveliness.  Plus the light up case is perfect for a novelty lover like me. (Totally not a de-potter...I LOVE palettes in their original form!)  I'm never breaking up with this one.

So that's it...what do you think of our October Winners?  Which products were superstars for you over the past month??

Beauty Blogger Headquarters: November Assignment!

Hey All,
We’re writing today in response to a task assigned over at Beauty Blogger Headquarters, a fun collaborative site that every single beauty blogger should be a part of.

The assignment of the month is to answer some questions addressing how we came to be beauty bloggers in the first place…and since we kind of like talking about ourselves anyway, we jump on any opportunity to do so without coming across as overly self-involved.  ; )

So, without further delay…here are the questions we’ve been posed…and our responses.  Who knows…you might learn something you never knew about us!

  • How long have you been blogging?  We started blogging in May of this year…hard to believe it’s been less than 6 months!
  • What/who inspired you to start blogging?  We are beauty-aholics and always have been.  We both did a lot of beauty talking/sharing on our respective Facebook accounts, and often did Glam Nights with ladies in our community to share tips and expertise.  One day K just said, “We should start a blog and put all this on it instead.”  And so…we did.
  • Did you tell your family and friends about your blog? If so, what was their reaction? Are they supportive or "in the dark" about your blogging?  Our friends and family absolutely know about our blog, and are supportive of it.  Our non-female Facebook friends are probably extra supportive, because since we shifted to the blog, they aren’t overwhelmed by all of our makeup pictures all over their news feeds…hahaha.
  • What goals or dreams did you have for your blog when you started? Have you accomplished them?  We really just wanted a platform to share ideas and stories and love for beauty products, and have really loved being able to express ourselves through our blog.  We continue to set goals for ourselves and to reach milestones that we never expected...we're having an awesome time!
  • If you could give your beginner-blogger-self one tip of advice, what would it be?  In the beginning, we were less likely to really put it ALL out there…and were a little more guarded with our posts.  It might have been that we were trying to fit a mold of what a beauty blog “should” be...because you never know what people are going to like, right?  With time we’ve evolved quite a bit and have shaped the site to reflect who we really are.  We would tell “ourselves” or any new bloggers to just dive in, and not to be afraid to be honest and blunt and real…because this is a community of wildly supportive people…and they will love you!
  • What is your favorite and least favorite thing about being a blogger?  Favorite=all of the fun and amazing people we’ve met through blogging and twitter, who share our love for things that sparkle.  Everything is more fun when you have friends to share it with!  Least favorite=not having enough time in the day (stupid real life and jobs!) to post about everything we want to post about.  Hahaha.  In our dream lives, we would be able to devote much more time to blogging, because we just love it!
  • What does your blog name mean? How did you decide on it?  We threw around some different ideas for names, but really wanted something unique that reflected our personalities.  Wyoming is such a huge part of who we are…so we had to shout it out…and of course, we love all things Sparkley…so we combined the two!

Thanks so much to all of the beauties over at Beauty Blogger Headquarters for including us in this community.  We can’t wait to read everyone else’s responses!

Have an awesome day…let us know if you want to know anything else about us!

Sigma Travel Kits: High Flying Love At First Brush!

You know, as much as we are Wyoming girls through and through, and don’t really see ourselves ever being anything else…(SouthDakotaSparkles just doesn’t have the same ring, does it?)…we cannot deny that we LOVE to get out and see new and fun places as often as we can.  Be it by plane, train, or automobile…WyoSparkles loves to travel!

If you love to travel as much as we love to travel, you know that it can be kind of a chore for the cosmetic loving girl.  Makeup travel cases are actually pretty tiny...

...and depending on the length of the trip, it's almost as if you need an entire separate suitcase just for your makeup, right?  (No seriously...we usually take an entire suitcase full of makeup, you guys.)

Thankfully the geniuses at Sigma know that a jet-setting gal on the go needs her essentials...but could do with a little extra room in their bags.  With that in mind, Sigma offers 7 darling Travel Kits that feature seven travel sized brushes from the Sigma Essentials kit, along with an adorable travel size brush holder.

Perhaps it was the winter months looming before us...which always make us want to travel even more...but recently, we just decided that we each HAD to have one...

K snatched her travel set up in the purple set, called "Make Me Crazy!"

J opted for a the turquoise set, called "Make Me Cool!"

Brushes featured in each set are:
  • E30--Pencil
  • E40--Tapered Blending
  • E55--Eye Shading
  • E65--Small Angle
  • F30--Large Powder
  • F40--Large Angled Contour
  • F60--Foundation

Aren't they a dream come true?  We sure think so.  Even honorary WyoSparkle Molly knew she had her hands on a good thing when they arrived...she didn't want to put them down!

Even though we don't have any big trips coming up any time soon, we can't wait to break these kits in.  We just know that we'll love them almost as much as we'll love booking our next vacation!

Do you use Sigma brushes?  Have you considered picking up one of these travel kits?  We highly highly HIGHLY recommend Sigma...get your own brushes here.

Do you travel "light" in the makeup department...or like us, do you just make room for everything?  :)
