SWEET e.l.f. Haul, part one

Not sure how many of you are familiar with e.l.f. cosmetics, but I’m pretty sure you all SHOULD be familiar with them, if you’re smart.  e.l.f. stands for eyes, lips, and face, and their website, eyeslipsface.com, features some a-MAY-zing deals on cosmetics.  (When I hyphenate a word, you know I mean business!)

e.l.f. features lots and lots of great beauty products for under $5.00.  With that kind of pricing, if you’re not familiar with their stuff, you know you can check them out without too much financial risk.  I mean, what’s to be worried about when you know that if you don’t like what you buy, you’re out three dollars or something?  I don’t think this will be an issue, though, because you’re pretty much going to like what you buy.  Seriously.

Remember May Day?  When you’d put together a basket or bag of treats for your friends and/or teachers and surprise them with those things on the first of May?  Well, recently, e.l.f. had a May Day promotion, where they’d send you a $20 Mystery May Day Bag with any purchase of $20 or more.  That, my friends, was a deal we could not pass up.  The only problem was that e.l.f.’s prices are so awesome, that we had to work really hard to build up $20 in products.  Somehow…we did it.  Phew.

Details on the haul are below:

K got these three brushes, which were $3 each.

Three dollars for a brush is a CRAY-zy good deal...especially since you can pay three or four times that price with other retailers/brands.  And, even with the abuse we put them through, neither of us has ever had a problem with e.l.f. brush quality.  For the money…you cannot do any better!  AND, this just in:  If the e.l.f. brushes strike your fancy, I was just on www.eyeslipsface.com, and they are having a promotion where you can get a 10 piece brush set for just $3, with any $30 purchase.  That’s a savings of 27 dollars, ladies.  We love saving money, right?  Get on that.  (Sometimes, when I see sales like this…I have a hard time not taking advantage of them…even if I already have the products that are on sale.  It’s a problem.  I’m seeking help.)

Next off, J decided to try e.l.f.’s Studio Makeup Mist & Set, which is $3 for about a 2 ounce bottle.

If you’re unfamiliar with makeup setting sprays, the idea is pretty simple.  You love hairspray, right?  You hate it when your hair falls or wrinkles or whatever…so you hairspray that ‘do up, right?  Well…with makeup setting spray, you’re doing the same thing for your face.  There is nothing more annoying than spending an hour on your makeup every morning (some of us take that long, okay??) only to look in the mirror during your mid-morning break to find your cosmetic masterpiece to be fading or smeared.  NOBODY likes that.  With setting spray…that happens less often…almost never.  We’ve found that using a setting spray helps keep all of our makeup in place no matter what craziness we get ourselves into.  You can pay a lot more for similar products by other brands (and we have, for sure) but if you’re skeptical about whether or not you’ll even like using a spray, the $3 dollar investment could be for you!  We can’t wait to see how this bargain of a bottle compares to the more expensive sprays we’ve tried.

There is never such thing as too much lip gloss, so grabbing the Studio Glossy Gloss in the color Ballet Slippers was a no brainer.

This is a pretty neutral color, which I like a lot, and the gloss went on really silky smooth.  It definitely falls into the “sticky gloss” side of the gloss family…but if you avoid going out in the wind immediately after applying, you’ll be in good shape.

We also grabbed a couple of packages of Essential Shine Eraser sheets, which were $1 (that’s right, ONE dollar) per package of 50 sheets.

These tiny little tissue papers are meant to absorb extra oil/shine from your skin while living your makeup in place, and let me tell you, they do their job.  You probably shouldn’t buy these unless you are ready to be a tad bit humbled, though.  We immediately tried a sheet upon opening the product, and even though I didn’t feel like I looked that bad before using it, the sheet looked like it came from the bottom of a serving of onion rings after being pressed to my forehead.  I’m really pretty.  Haha.  In all seriousness, I can’t wait to use these even more frequently during the summer, when we all tend to sweat a bit more, and hopefully stay fresh and matte all day long!

Finally, we picked up the Essential 3-Piece Eyeliner Set, which again, was $3.

We love love love our eyeliners, and this is a pretty irresistible deal!  First off, there are two shimmer pencils, in Twinkle Teal and Black Bandit, which each have their own built in sharpener.  Both pencils glide on easily, have just the right amount of shimmer and great staying power.  If you’re a fan of using pencil liners for that smudged/smokey look, you’re going to love these pencils!

In addition to the pencils, you’ll get a Waterproof Eyeliner Pen in Black, which is FAB-u-lous.  Because we are not professional makeup artists and/or robots, we both have found that applying liquid eyeliner with a traditional brush tip and not messing up (drawing a squiggly line all the way up to your eyebrow when the phone rings and gives you a heart attack) can be a challenge.  This liner is liquid liner, which is best for forming precise lines and cat eyes, but in the form of a super sharp (not owie sharp, just precise sharp) felt tip marker.  Creating the perfect look with this pen is a breeze, and for the price, it’s such a freaking good deal, you can’t afford not to check it out.  Okay, you can probably afford not to.  I mean, that’s kind of a stupid phrase.  We CAN choose not to spend money…no matter how great of a deal it is.  It’s possible to make that choice.  Is it fun to make that choice, though?  NO.  Not fun at all.  Buy this eyeliner!

So…that’s it for the purchases we chose from e.l.f.  You’re probably sick and tired of reading by now, though, (yeah right, you can’t get enough of us, and we know it!) and if not, I’ve got a union break coming up…so we’re going to review the $20 Mystery Bag in another post.  You should be on the edge of your seat…because if you thought these products/prices were awesome, just wait until you see what we got for FREE!!

Until then…stay sparkly!  (Yes, I just said that. Deal with it.)
