Ode To A GHD Flat Iron

Every day is a better with a little bit of silliness...so here’s a little song J wrote in honor of the current love of her life...her hot pink ghd flat iron:

(To the tune of “My Favorite Things” from "The Sound of Music")

Wake up each morning with wavy locks flowing
Want my hair smooth and straight, no curls showing
My little “magic wand” takes out the spring
Yes, my flat i-ron’s my favorite thing!

Use lots of products that add to my sleekness
Made to protect my hair from my hot weakness
I cannot tell you how lost I would be
Without my straightener by ghd!

I never worry ‘bout my golden tresses
My hair lies perfectly straight on my dresses
I’ve never owned a more wonderful thing
Love all the joy that this straightener brings!

Now I’m frizz free
Ev’ry morning
And it makes me glad
So that’s why my straightener from ghd’s
The best tool I’ve ever had!

Hope you're smiling now.  :)  What's your favorite styling tool?

Celebrate Your Inner Marilyn

So recently, we saw a challenge on Facebook to do a Marilyn Monroe inspired makeup look in honor of MM’s upcoming birthday on June 1st.  Never ones to back down from a challenge, we set out to see what we could do to transform J in to a Ms. Monroe impersonator.

MM was such a classic beauty, and when studying her makeup, it was actually quite understated in most cases…she never looked overly “done up.”  Trying to make J look like her, however, meant a LOT of “doing up,” and when we were finished…J looked nothing like Marilyn Monroe.  :(  We took some pictures to see if we could manipulate them into looking Marilyn-y…but to no avail.  J was bummed.

K reminded J, though, that you don’t have to look like Marilyn Monroe (or Angelina Jolie or Katy Perry) to be beautiful.  You just have to find your own beauty…(it’s in there for all of you, ladies!)...and share it with the world.  That’s what Marilyn did…and here, this many years later…she is still celebrated as an icon of grace and beauty.

None of us can be Marilyn Monroe...but J found her own Marilyn-ish vibe and ran with it last night..

This week, let’s celebrate Marilyn’s birthday…and our own individual beauty…together!  We’re all worth it!

Big Debate! (Sigma Essential Brush Set)

After much deliberation, K has decided to upgrade her brush set.

If you are unfamiliar with Sigma.

Sigma was founded in 2008 by Brazilian natives Rene, a civil engineer with a Master's degree in Business Administration, and his wife Simone, a researcher with a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology. After discovering the strong need for worldwide availability of affordable and high-quality beauty products, the couple combined their knowledge of engineering and scientific research to create a company that met these needs in the cosmetic industry.

Today, Sigma is one of the fastest-growing and top-rated companies in the beauty industry as a result of its ingenious and high-quality products, all of which are tested for performance, resistance and durability to fit the specific needs and wants of every consumer.

Reviews from proud Sigma product owners:

--"I love my Sigma brushes!!"

--"My wife loves the set, she is very happy with the quality and I'm happy as well as I saved money for good quality brushes"

--"This product is amazing...the quality of the brushes is fantastic they are as soft as you can imagine..and the box is so cool and good quality too"

After hearing countless compliments and rave reviews, I decided it was time, BUT I've come across another decision.... which Essential set should I get??

Wonderful Walmart

Hey Dolls...in case you haven't figured it out by now...we live in Wyoming.  Living in Wyoming is fabulous for many reasons...and both of us have tried to live in other places...and ended up coming back home.  Wyoming is wonderful...you should try it out sometime.

One thing about living where we live, however, is that we don't have immediate access to Sephora or Ulta or Disneyland.  The lack of Sephora and Ulta are the most prevelant to this post, however, because I want to talk about satisfying your beauty cravings when you can't just drive to either of these places...or even a mall, lets be real...without making sure you have a full tank of gas first.

Well...you go to Walmart.  We go to Walmart.  And believe it or not...we find something great almost every time we go.  :)

At our most recent trip to Walmart, J picked up the Physician's Formula Shimmer Strips eyeliner for blue eyes.  We have never had anything but awesome experiences with PF stuff before...so she's super excited to play with these three new colors.

K grabbed the Revlon Lip Butter in a soft pink color, Sugar Frosting.  The color goes on like velvety, well, butter...doesn't dry out...and has a glossy shine that we love!

K also decided to try L'Oreal's new Voluminous False Fiber Lashes mascara in black lacquer.  If you're going for "drugstore" cosmetics, you really can't get any better than the original Voluminous mascara.  I like it even better than many "high end" mascaras I've tried.  This new mascara seems to produce similar results to the original Voluminous line.  These are good results...but there wasn't any noticeable, additional, length created from the fibers.

J grabbed a tube of Hard Candy's Sheer Envy Skin Perfecting Primer.  For the price, neither of us has found a primer that we'd recommend more highly than this one.  Very comparable to Smashbox's Photo Finish primer...for a fraction of the cost.  We LOVE this stuff.

Finally, J also decided to try Revlon's Just Bitten lip stain in Forbidden.  The color of the stain itself
went on darker than she had expected it to...(probably because she's used to glosses)...but it had pretty good staying power and didn't have to be reapplied often. The other side of the stick is a clear lip balm that gives the lips a little bit of shine, and softens them up quite a bit.

Overall, we were both excited about our Walmart goodies.  We've heard other bloggers/vloggers claim that they wouldn't EVER use these "drugstore" brands...but as far as we're concerned, those girls are missing out.  These products are awesome...and we know we'll find even more next time!

Lock & Load

Sounds like a movie title right?

Let's go with it....Lock & Load, the newly tested and reviewed product starring....Kat Von D "Lock & Load" makeup setting spray.  Rated E - excellent!! :)

Ok, ok...it's a Thursday, we gotta stick a little crazy/silly in the day!  Speaking of Thursday...it's one of those days, you just wish it was Friday, but it's not...so you gotta suffer through and make the most of it till finally...Friday arrives!  Especially when it's getting closer to a holiday weekend!  Woot woot!

Kat Von D, in our opinion typically puts out great products.  Though only available through Sephora, which at times can be a pain.  You know - "spend such and such at Ulta and get such and such FREE"  and vice versa.  Great deal at Sephora, but they don't carry Redken or whatever.  Oh the trials we face when budget and bonus shopping, right?

Back to the point at hand -- The Lock & Load -- did NOT let us down!!!

We totally love the "cucumbery-fresh something something" smell.  Haha, we really couldn't put a finger on it, but it's a nice smell.  You know how we are about smells.  :)
We ALSO totally love the spray nozzle - a nice soft mist emits, rather than drops of rain hitting your face randomly leaving you disgruntled and annoyed.

BEST part ----- our final look of the day....STAYED put!  Beautiful all day!

Till next time lovelies,

Tuesday...Take It or Toss It

Okay ladies, for those of you who do a lot of shopping online, (as we are forced to do as Walmart and Kmart are the only stores within our immediate grasp, and fail to meet our beauty needs wants needs) you find yourselves a recipient of several free samples.  Additionally, we have each recently subscribed to different sample subscription programs (and some of the same ones), and find ourselves swimming in fabulous samples of different products that we’re dying to try.  It is with this in mind that we’re starting out what will be a weekly feature on our blog: “Tuesday’s Take It or Toss It!”
Each Tuesday, we’ll gather a group of similar samples or products and do a very quick (like three sentences tops, okay?) review of each one…and then assign them their final grade…either a “Take it!” or a “Toss it!”  Easy enough, right?  Right.

We’ve talked before about how much we love to smell good.  It’s a big deal.  Stinkiness never equals happiness!  So…this week we’re going to run through some perfume samples we’ve collected recently…and let you know what we really think of them.

Burberry’s Body:

We are both kind of on the fence about this one.  Definitely not stinky…but nothing we’d probably buy at full price.  Fairly light, and not overpowering…but not super girlie either.  Final decision for us:

Marc Jacobs’ Daisy Eau So Fresh:

Definitely one of our new favorites…have already bought full size bottles of this one.  Marc Jacobs never fails to impress, and this fun, super light scent puts us in a great mood every time.  If you love MJ’s original Daisy, you will LOVE this! Final decision:

Versace’s Versus:

Um…we like our little samples with a cute little spritzer that dispenses the perfect amount of fragrance, but this guy has a little stick that you pull out and somehow manage to explode the scent all over your chin the process.  Then, all day long, you’ll smell Versus…which, frankly, is so heavy and not our style, it leaves you feeling like you’ve become…the man of the house.  Easy one:

Coach’s Poppy Flower:

This. Is. Perfection.  Okay, we’re breaking the three sentence rule, but it’s worth it, because this is PHENOMENAL.  It’s fun, flowery, light, and playful in every way.  Definitely definitely definitely…

Gucci’s Flora:

This isn’t bad at all.  Neither of us is in love with it as an all day scent, but it could be appropriate for an evening out, when something a little heavier (but not overpowering at all) is what you’re looking for.  It’s not something probably either of us would buy…but we wouldn’t be grossed out smelling it on someone else.  Overall…

And that’s it.  We’re addicted to smelling good, and love love love getting new scents to test drive.  Of course the final decision is always yours…but hopefully our insights will help you in your decision making process.

(Trust us, though, on the Poppy Flower…you’re gonna want to snatch that one up PRONTO… : ) …)

Getting Moonbaked - Sephora style

Hey everyone...K here!

Package from Sephora arrived on the doorstep the other day - Woohoo!!!

We were absolutely dying to try the Sephora moonbaked eyeshadow palette - in the heat!
The colors were beautiful, the packaging was super cute and hello?  moonbaked!
We splurged the $30.00 and here it is...so let's get STARTED!!  :)

#1 we still think the colors are really really pretty, but can you say MESSY?!?!?  We take pride in our palettes and this palette, due to the inset design of the palette and the raised shadows-- impossible to keep semi clean.  Not a fan!
#2 the colors weren't as pigmented as we hoped, it took several coats to achieve any semblance that we were even wearing eyeshadow!  Not a fan!
#3 the colors, though not pigmented were very shimmery.  Love!  <---- that being said, we're gonna play with this palette some more.  We'll keep you posted...

check out the swatches, not highly pigmented, but just the right shimmer!  :)
Bottom line:  We don't know if we would make this purchase again, not completely worth the $30.00.

Till next time...xoxo,

Review: Suave Keratin Infusion

We are huge fans of high end products, and when you find something that you love…usually it is more than worth the price.  Sometimes, though, finding a more affordable alternative to these products is a dream come true, and if they work…why pay more?

We recently found out about a new line of Suave products, called Keratin Infusion.  There are several brands of hair products that boast keratin as their selling point, but Suave compares their product to the Keratase line, which can be found here:  www.kerastase-usa.com.

J tried the Color Care Shampoo and Conditioner...

...and braced herself for amazing smooth results in her naturally curly, but always straightened, color treated, and usually dry (thanks a lot, freaking Wyoming dry climate!) hair.

In all honesty…she wasn’t overly impressed.  The shampoo and conditioner have done a fine job…but J didn’t notice that her hair was any more manageable or more smooth than it has been when using other smoothing shampoos and conditioners…even others by Suave.  It’s not that she wouldn’t recommend the products…but she can’t say that they are better than others she’s tried.  Also, she’s not a huge fan of the smell.  Smell is a big freaking deal when it comes to hair products, because you always seem to get whiffs of it off and on throughout the day.  You want those whiffs to be “yay, my hair smells awesome” whiffs, but the fragrance of both this shampoo and conditioner are pretty heavy, and reminiscent of your grandma’s perfume.  Seriously.  Not great.  With these things in mind, we probably won’t buy these again.

We both tried out the Smooth & Shine Serum…

…and have had pretty good results from it.  Adding a little styling serum to dry ends almost always makes them more manageable and easier to straighten.  STILL…while this serum works well, again, we can’t say that it is any better than other serums we’ve used.  Hmph.

So…overall, we’re not complaining about these products…but we’re not singing their praises from the rooftops, either.  They’ll do, for now.  However, the quest to find the perfect, yet affordable and awesome smelling, line of smoothing hair products continues.

sandal season = jelly bean toes!

We couldn't help ourselves!!  If it's sandal season, you GOTTA flaunt jelly bean toes AT LEAST once!  :)

Sweet e.l.f. Haul, part two

Okay, about twelve years ago (or a couple days, who knows?) we said we’d do another post to fill you in on the rest of our e.l.f. haul.  We um…didn’t do that yet.  Whoops.  No time like the present, I guess…so here goes!

First off, here’s a picture of our whole e.l.f. haul, which includes the products we posted about, along with the stuff we’ll detail here…not a bad little pile for a little over twenty bucks, right?  :)

Okay, so first off, you probably notice a nice little color palette there.   We’ve both gotten palettes from e.l.f. before, but there is never ever such thing as too much eye shadow, so this was super fun.  You can find this palette on the site in either a warm or a cool collection…we got the cool one…which was…well, cool.  :)

In addition to the palette, we also got an individual eyeshadow, in the color Pebble.  This is a pretty neutral/gray-ish/taupe-y color…should be pretty versatile.

Next, to go along with the brushes K picked out, we got one of the Mineral Contour Brushes.  If you aren’t using brushes to apply your makeup, we STRONGLY recommend it…it seriously changes everything….we love brushes…you’ll never go back to sponge applicators!

Next we got a fun Studio Minty Lip Gloss in the color San Diego.  While we both love San Diego, and we both love love love mint infused glosses, neither one of us was prepared for this bold color.  Still, don’t be afraid to try bright lips…they can be super fun for days when you might have understated eyes but still want to flash some color.  The Minty Lip Gloss is great…and is available in other, more conservative, colors as well.

Lip glosses were a major theme in this bag, as we also got the Essential 3-piece Hypershine Gloss Set.  These three glosses are also bright, and have a fruity theme. Super fun...and the shine lasts FOREVER.  Not really forever.  I'm prone to exaggeration.  But it has some staying power, okay?

Also for your lips, we were treated to e.l.f.’s Essential Soothing Lip Balm, in Orange Crème.  This balm goes on super silky, and feels great on!  Maybe best of all is that it can be yours for just $1, and is available in four flavors!

As a reminder, everything in this post was f-f-f-FREE!  Thanks to e.l.f. for treating their customers so well…this was such a fun surprise/bonus bag!  If any of these products catch your eye, make sure to click over to www.eyeslipsface.com to pick them up for yourself!

Perfume? Fragrance? Why?

"A woman who doesn't wear perfume has no future." - Coco Chanel.

We all like to smell good, I mean seriously, who wants to run around smelling like an old dirty sock?  In fact, fragrance of some sort is in just about everything these days.  You can't just run to the store and pick up a body wash containing all the needs for your particular skin.  Noooo...you gotta pick ALL that, plus you gotta open every bottle and smell it. Which one of these smells the best?  Personally, I'm okay giving up a few extra minutes to find the perfect smell...totally worth it!  Sniff, sniff, sniff...mmmm....THIS is the one!  Come on, I don't want to wash up with the perfect moisturizing body wash...that smells of onions and liver!  Nooooo!
IT IS also true that fragrance can control our emotions.  To avoid any deep scientific theory on the subject...or go into lavender this or blah blah.  I typically go with my gut instinct.  If it smells good, then it obviously will make me happy in some way or another.  Wait...let's get back to perfume, ladies!  :)

My all time go to perfume --  Georgio Armani Code Pour Femme  (summer and original)
Georgio Armani Code Pour Femme Summer notes -- Orange Blossom, Pear Sorbet, Ginger, Musk
Georgio Armani Code Pour Femme notes -- Blood Orange, Ginger, Pear Sorbet, Sambac Jasmine, Orange Blossom, Seringa Flower, Lavender Honey, Precious Woods Complex, Vanilla

Two absolutely delicious perfumes, I've recently added to my collection and fallen for....HEAD OVER HEELS!!

Lovestruck by Vera Wang -- opens with notes of exotic and juicy pink guava and soothing angelica blossom. The middle notes “bloom” with tones of intoxicating and sensual tuberose with aquatic lotus flower. Precious woody notes and sheer musk form a solid perfume base.

Coach Poppy by Coach -- opens with bright cucumber, juicy mandarin and freesia buds notes. Heart is filled with aroma of jasmine, pink water lily, Southern gardenia, red candied rose petals and crème brûlée accord. Base note is a mixture of cedar wood, sandalwood, vanilla and marshmallow.

Smelling great and feeling great!!
